DEATH OF AN INNOCENT

I went to a party, Mom, I remembered what you said.

You told me not to drink, Mom, so I drank soda instead

I really felt proud inside, Mom, the way you said I would.

I didn't drink and drive, Mom, even though the others said I should.

I know I did the right thing, Mom, I know you are always right.

Now the party is finally ending, Mom, as everyone is driving out of sight.

As I got into my car, Mom, I knew I'd get home in one piece.

Because of the way you raised me, so responsible and sweet.

I started to drive away, Mom, but as I pulled out into the road,

the other car didn't see me, Mom, and hit me like a load.

As I lay there on the pavement, Mom, I hear the policeman say

the other guy is drunk, Mom, and now I'm the one who will pay.

I'm lying here dying, Mom....I wish you'd get here soon.

How could this happen to me, Mom? My life just burst like a balloon.

There is blood all around me, Mom, and most of it is mine.

I hear the medic say, Mom, I'll die in a short time.

I just wanted to tell you, Mom, I swear I didn't drink.

It was the others, Mom. The others didn't think.

He was probably at the same party as I.

The only difference is, he drank and I will die.

Why do people drink, Mom? It can ruin your whole life.

I'm feeling sharp pains now. Pains just like a knife.

The guy who hit me is walking, Mom, and I don't think it's fair.

I'm lying here dying and all he can do is stare.

Tell my brother not to cry, Mom. Tell Daddy to be brave.

And when I go to heaven, Mom, put "Daddy's Baby" on my grave.

Someone should have told him, Mom, not to drink and drive.

If only they had told him, Mom, I would still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter, Mom. I'm becoming very scared.

Please don't cry for me, Mom. When I needed you, you were always there.

I have one last question, Mom, before I say good bye,

"I didn't drink and drive, so why am I the one to die?"

I felt it needed to be shared with you in your first visit to these clouds.

This tragedy is occurring somewhere everyday to an innocent person

& all because car keys weren't left at home or someone didn't speak up.

It's sad any time, but most heartbreaking when it happens to the young

they have not even lived yet!

If only just "one phone call" was made to take a cab instead ........

In a drinking state of mind one can think & say,

"I'm okay..I can make it home.

Don't have far to go...it's only down the street.

I'll take the back roads...cops are on the main roads...

Don't want to get a DUI ... That costs too much these days!"

With no thought of it happening that night, until .....!!!

DEAR GOD...HOW MUCH IS LIFE WORTH?

"LAWS OF THE LAND" = "LOVE in ACTION"

Springing Forth To Protect The Innocent ... Sometimes Too Late ...

Pathetically, one hears the bitter defiance of the guilty when "caught"

Strange how "would be defiance" turns into "silent remorse" upon

The Death of an Innocent.

Then, there are those who won't or don't speak up or take any action

when they see another person about to drive after drinking ...

Or the employee who knew better than to pour or serve more ...

Where are these people when that innocent person

is taking the last dying breath as they lay on the cold pavement?

Sadly, I shake my head & plead for others to "think" before they act!

I've not personally experienced this type of tragedy in my life,

but does one have to experience this to know

ALL who "LOVE TO LIVE should LIVE TO LOVE"

My Prayer For These Clouds Is To Make A Difference

Somewhere...Somehow...SomeDay

For Someone's Life!!!

If just one speaks up to just one who wants to drive after drinking

& if just one life is spared from a few moments here now,

then all lives are blessed & this world is made richer for

JUST ONE LIVING TO LOVE!

We "ALL" bear the responsibility of stopping senseless tragedy!!!

I realize you probably don't know me...But I plead with you

Please take this moment to make a conscious decision...

If know someone is about to drive after drinking

Please Do Something! ... Speak up!

If it was someone you loved laying on that pavement,

you'd wonder why someone didn't say or do something

to prevent the tragedy before it happened!

&

If you do go out partying some night ...

PLEASE....PLEASE DON'T DRIVE!!!

Taxi fare is such a small price to pay for an innocent life
& speaking up costs absolutely nothing!!!

"To drink or not to drink" is not the real issue!

That is your personal business & your life choice,

Please don't drive when drinking,

Because that is when it becomes everyone's business.

I pray this never happens to you or

to someone you love dearly!
